Kitzbuhel; My but you´ve grown
I was in Kitzbuhel for the first time in a while recently. I was being squired by an old friend who lives in the nearby village of Kirchdorf in Tirol (another story). What this friend wanted to show was how Kitzbuhel grew into a 5-star resort, one to rival Zermatt, St. Moritz or Lech. He showed me a host of new first class and expensive housing, all owned by what he described as "rich fuckers" not only from Kitzbuhel but fromn all over Europe, nay, the world. Then he took me to see a host of new 4 and 5 star resorts darted in and around Kitzbuhel. In Jochberg for example there is a new, 5-star resort being built that lays claim to opening by Christmas this year. Its slogan (at least as I understood it in German) is "finally, real luxury in Kitzbuhel". Er, as I saw it the resort is in ...Jochberg...a village well outside of Kitz, but still in the Bezirk. Hmmmn. And to make matters worse this big, luxourious entry is built right next to the highway. Hmmmn again. Then there´s the A-Rosa which has a fabulous luxury hotel, a great restaurant and a golf course. Jeezus H. Oh for 45 Euro there folks can take advantage of all sorts of hotel-offered goodies including a limousine ride to the local casino and 15 Euro back in Jettons to play the casino´s games of chance. Then there was a third. Equally luxurious but by this time my eyes glazed over and I forgot the name. Oh well. The next morning (Monday) my friend drove me to a bank in Kitzbuhel. I did my banking and walked back to the car and viewed the traffic (walking) in Kitzbuhel. Wait a minute!!!!
Many of the ladies, regardless of age were, well, dressed like starlets even at 10:AM. They were dressed and made up to the nines. Why? I wondered aloud. Could it be they were attracted by the new displays of wealth and were equally keen that they wanted retaliation? Hmmn for a third time.
